Benjamin Sesko injury ‘not looking good’ as Man Utd star speaks out on latest blow

Benjamin Sesko is ‘fully dedicated’ to his injury recovery after a setback ruled the Manchester United star out of Slovenia’s upcoming international matches.

The former RB Leipzig star has not started a Premier League match this term having missed the entire pre-season campaign due to a shin injury.

He was left out of the squad entirely for Sunday’s draw with Fulham with reports later revealing he has suffered a recurrence of the same issue.

The striker picked up the injury after getting a kick to his shin in the spring, aggravating it after a heavy landing at Old Trafford in a victory over Liverpool in May.

He becomes the latest United player to withdraw from international duty following Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo on Monday.

Sesko has not represented Slovenia in a competitive international fixture since October last year and will not be involved in upcoming Nations League fixtures against Scotland, North Macedonia and Switzerland.   

Following confirmation of his withdrawal, the striker wrote on Instagram: ‘I am very sorry that I will have to miss the next matches of the national team.

‘I have always played for Slovenia and will always play with heart and pride. The most important thing now is to fully dedicate myself to recovery.

‘I am already working on getting back on the field as soon as possible and helping the national team and the club again.

‘I believe in our boys and I am sure that they will show the team spirit that has always adorned us this time.

‘I can’t wait to be able to wear the jersey with the national emblem again and, until then, I will be Slovenia’s biggest fan.’

Sesko’s absence from the national team has irked Slovenia over the last 12 months with former head coach Matjaz Kek accusing the Premier League side of being ‘disrespectful’ over their handling of a separate groin injury last year.

Slovenian outlet Ekipa describes his latest absence as one of ‘horrific proportions’. Sesko is currently undergoing tests before United decide on their treatment plan but the report ominously states however things ‘do not look good’ with the fact it is a recurrence of the same injury ‘extremely worrying.’

United return to action on 10 October against Tottenham.
